DESCRIPTION
Mycolic acids are a class of long chain α-alkyl-β-hydroxy fatty acids which constitute a significant part of the outer membrane bilayer of Mycobacteria. Due to their ability to fold in a zipper like structure they form an impenetrable and highly apolar layer. Mycolic acids have various functions and are vital for the survival and pathogenesis of mycobacteria.
Cis methoxy mycolic acid features an α-methyl-methoxy unit and a cis cyclopropane ring
